Ask me anything

There is one
person here.

Kept in Print is made by Shaun, in Durban, South Africa. Not a company, not a support desk — one person, who reads every message and writes back himself.

There is no wrong question and you don’t need the right words for things. Describe it however makes sense to you.

Who replies
Shaun. The same person who made it.
How long
Usually the same day. Always within two.
If it’s longer
Something broke at my end. Send it again.

Write to me

This doesn’t sign you up to anything and doesn’t order anything. Your message is used to answer you and nothing else — no list, no newsletter.

You might not need to write at all

These four come up most. Full answers, not links.

Will anyone read my messages?

No. Your book is typeset by software and printed by a machine, and nobody here opens it. The one exception is the Heirloom edition, which is printed once and can never be reprinted — that one is proofread end to end by me before it goes to press, and you choose it deliberately, knowing that. Every other edition, nobody sees.

I paid and something went wrong.

Write to me with whatever you have — the date, the email address you used, or the reference if you kept it. I can find a payment from any of those. If the book never arrived or came out wrong, you get your money back; I don't need you to prove anything or fill in a form.

Can you delete everything you have of mine?

There is almost nothing to delete — the pages we print are removed as soon as your book reaches you, and within 48 hours in every case. If you want the account itself gone, say so and it goes, along with anything attached to it. You don't have to give a reason.

I don't understand what I'm buying.

That is a completely reasonable thing to say and it is usually our fault, not yours. Tell me what you were hoping for — a file on your computer, a book in the post, or something made by hand — and I'll tell you plainly which one that is and what it costs. I would rather talk you out of the expensive one than sell you the wrong thing.

Who you’re dealing with

Kept in Print isn’t a registered company. It is one person building something, in Durban, South Africa, and it is deliberately not pretending to be a business with departments. That means you always get a straight answer from the person who wrote the code — and it also means there is no call centre and no queue.

The form above is the way to reach me. It goes straight to me — there is no intermediate address that gets forgotten about.
