If you want to hand something to someone. Once printing opens, you are paying a modest amount more and getting the actual object — bound, trimmed, delivered, and reprinted free if it arrives damaged. No print shop to find, no proof to approve, no chance of it coming back wrong. This is the one most people should choose.
In exactly three cases: you want more than one copy — the file prints as many times as you like, so three for a family costs you paper rather than three books; you are somewhere international courier makes a parcel absurd; or you genuinely want to choose the paper and binding yourself. Otherwise the printed book is less work and better value.
And before either: build the whole book free and read every page. The free version is the entire book with a faint mark across it — no card, no clock.
You never have to buy one to get another. The printed book and the Heirloom include the file — you are not paying twice for the same book.
